A lot of people want to earn money from home, what with the rising prices of gas and the convenience of the Internet. As a result, when applying for a job, some people offer the option of their working at home, and still being able to fulfill all their job duties. Some businesses will like this, as it saves them the trouble of having to take care of another employee, providing the employee with a desk and having to pay for extra electricity that the employee will be using up. However, not all businesses see working from home as an option for its employees: this can mean having to pay much higher fees to cover employee electricity use, and it may involve dealing with employees who collect salaries but don’t work.
Be Assertive but Truthful
Not all employers, however, are skeptical about working from home, so you may have some luck if you have a good resume. Here are a few tips that you may want to take note of as you start writing your resume with the hope that you can work from home.
Is there any disability, sickness, or disadvantage that you have (say a bad location that you have a hard and dangerous time commuting out of) that may qualify you to work from home? Place this in your resume, but downplay it by saying that you can still do a lot of work at home without affecting your work output.
Show information on what you can do with computers. This will include data processing, transcription, and even programming. Show how skilful you are, and if you have certifications or associate’s degrees in using computers and in using the Internet to your advantage, then state them. Don’t forget to provide references to earlier jobs where you did similar work.
Be Persuasive but Not Pushy
You may also want to say that working from home will keep you out of distractions in the workplace, such as talking among employees. This ploy might not always work, however, so don’t be too pushy about the advantages of working from home lest you show, unwittingly, that you don’t like the workplace that your bosses pride themselves on.
